Avatar-assisted medication administration with AI-based intake control: More and more people, especially in advanced age, rely on multiple medications. However, regular and correct intake poses a challenge for many, sometimes due to forgetfulness, lack of support, or side effects.
This is exactly where our new AI project comes in, which we are conducting together with the University Hospital Halle (Saale). It uses camera and sensor technology along with intelligent evaluation to ensure that affected individuals take their medication on time and correctly.
To achieve the desired effect, medications should be taken exactly as planned. If they are forgotten or mixed up, it can lead to health problems or even hospital stays. Especially older people, who have to take many different medications at different times, often have problems with correct intake.
The researchers in the project AvatarMediKI are therefore developing an intelligent medication dispenser. It is supposed to use artificial intelligence (AI) to register whether the medications are taken according to medical instructions.
At the same time, the dispenser should have a dialogue system that motivates patients to take their medication in the form of an avatar, thus improving intake accuracy. The researchers specifically collect user feedback to improve the device based on the evaluation and to adapt it particularly to the needs of older people. They also investigate how the target group copes with the avatar.
